Connect the curriculum to real life!

Learning is no longer about memorisation of facts from a book or videos alone. Students will start to see Biology in the world around them and use their understanding to explain what they see.

Learning becomes relevant

Knowledge becomes relevant, applied and helpful to build understanding that not only helps in exams, but is helpful to explain their own lives and their place in the world.

Deep understanding aids recall in exams

By making learning meaningful and relevant to the world around them, students are more likely to form memories that are accessible in exam situations.  Every video highlights the key terms that get marks in the exams, and shows the relevant area within the specification.

Biology Is Everywhere! How does it work?

Videos that connect the curriculum learning to real life!  Each week another video is added to the library to support the learning journey through the course content. The collection grows week by week to form a searchable library of over 80 videos when the course completes (Oct 2027). Biology is all around us. It explains how and why our bodies do what they do, how the natural world exists and helps us to better understand our place within it. These videos show students the relevance of what they're learning and connect it to the world they see around them. Memory is reinforced as they'll be continually reminded of their Biology learning, in the things they see and experience day to day. They'll discover the meaning of the exam content and form deeper understanding to build a more solid foundation of memory and understanding. On a weekly basis (on average), another video is added to the library, so the collection grows week by week. Wherever possible, the videos added are relevant to the topic taught in that week's tuition session. They show me (Amanda) out and about showing the biology wherever it crops up! Picture me on the compost heap, by the pond, at the medicine cabinet, walking the dog, in the shops.. and so much more... Key words and terms that link to the specification content, along with relevant specification extracts are shown at the side of each video. Watch in your own time, speed up, slow down, pause and reflect. All videos have captions. Search the library by the key terms given in the title, so that you can find videos to support your current learning, whenever and wherever you're up to. The length of video is variable depending on topic. Some are just a few minutes, others may be 20 minutes or so.

Your tutor

Hi, I’m Amanda. I’ve been teaching IGCSE Biology to home-educated students since 2017 and teaching Biology since I qualified as a Science teacher in 2010. I have a BSc in Zoology, an MSc in Applied Entomology and have worked in biological research as an earthworm ecotoxicologist and equine welfare researcher all over the world. My menagerie of weird and wonderful animals helps me bring my teaching to life, and I love to teach Biology with real things and interactive demonstrations.

You just 'get' home-ed, you accept it and don't judge, and that's quite rare for a provider who doesn't home-ed themselves. Your passion for making sure ALL the children can access learning shines through.

Amanda's Sparking STEM online sessions had such a huge impact for both of us!...he suddenly began to look forward to his Science sessions, he was keen to join in and Amanda's welcoming and understanding nature showed him that not all teachers were to be feared.
